CountryMouse's Diary

Part 76

Rainbow swirly bar

Thursday, August 2, 2007, 3:24pm: hot enough for ya? We are certainly in the Dog Days of summer here in SW Ohio.  :-(   It's currently 95*F., not counting the humidity, which makes it feel even hotter. Grrr. I'll be so glad when cool autumn weather arrives! Well, any cooler weather would be welcome!

I've completed all my Garden of Friendship 7th Birthday Bash pages! Aaand I won 2d place in the two games I played in the Birthday Bash Battles that the Tournament Committee put on, putting me in 3d place overall! I was very surprised I got that far in the games! I had some stiff competition but fun times! Click here to see my awards.

I've added a couple presents/plaques I received from Teddie Bear Hugs on CM's Fuzzy Friends main page. Go check out Teddie Bears Hugs' site!

I made a bracelet today, a one-quarter set of Anglican Prayer Beads.

Saturday, August 4, 2007, 7:46am: Ack! I forgot about Lammas, a celebration of the First Harvest! That was August 1st. Well, I hope you had a nice one, anyway. :-)

Happy Lammas

ShelterBOOKS: I finished Un Lun Dun by China Miéville yesterday. I had started it in June, but didn't actually get into it very far until I had finished The Sewing Circle: Sappho's Leading Ladies. I ended up LOVING Un Lun Dun! Once I got going, I did not want to stop reading this! I recommend it to everyone! I do hope Mr. Miéville writes a sequel to this!

I started reading Al Gore's The Assault on Reason; but for fiction I started Shelter by Susan Palwick (click the pic at left to see it MUCH larger). Interesting so far! Cat'r recommended/loaned it to me.  :-)

Tuesday, August 7, 2007, 9:41am: I'm going to have to start posting this at the beginning of each month. Just in case. If you don't see me here, check:

countrymouse's LiveJournal

and/or

CountryMouse's Yahoo! 360* Blog

Or even if you DO see me here, check them anyway. ::grin:: Remember, I can't post to CM's Diary unless I am at my desktop computer at home. But I can post to my LiveJournal and my Yahoo! 360* Blog from anywhere/any computer!

Oh and something that I probably haven't mentioned in at least a year or more: I create my pages for 800 x 600 resolution. But I personally view them at 1024 x 768 (native resolution for my monitor). I don't know how many people are still using 800 x 600, and I don't want to create scrolling situations for anyone by creating at a higher resolution. I used to always hate that myself, on others' pages, so I try to avoid that on mine. So if you are running at a higher resolution and you wonder why things look "skinny" on my pages, that's why.

Thursday, August 9, 2007, 11:02am:  Yesterday we had a high temperature of 100*F. The weather forecasters expect the same for today. Ugh.

Here are a few more photos, added to the Canon section. Slowly, slowly...

Friday, August 10, 2007, 12:59pm: Dark Childe went out and took photos of our new replacement windows today. S/he let me put them up on my site. So go look. :-)

Sunday, August 12, 2007, 9:21am: New entry in my AC:WW Diary!

I forgot to mention this, but last month I joined the Garden of Friendship's Quilters Club! It's just for fun and sharing, not the same as the Quilters Committee, which has specific duties and such. Here are my Garden of Friendship Quilts; and here is my Welcome Quilt from the Club.

11:26am:  Here are more older photos, starting with "appreciable" snowfall and ending on the next page with ice storm photos--please be sure to go look at Dark Childe's ice storm photos! They are SO much better than mine! The ice storm happened like this: go to my LiveJournal [now at CountryMouse's Refuge] and follow the entries from the 12th through the 19th.

1:54pm: A few AC:WW photos inserted/backdated. Go here.

Monday, August 13, 2007, 8:48pm: I *think* I'm all caught up on the main Canon photo section! I still have Coolpix photos to put up, needlework photos, and Fuzzy Fotos. Anyway, start here (cell phone straps) and be sure to go to the end, as there were some groups of photos that were added in between others.

Tuesday, August 14, 2007, 4:57pm: Okay! I'm caught up in the Coolpix photo section! Start here and continue to the end.

Also I added one photo to the AC:WW Diary.

Wednesday, August 15, 2007, 12:50pm: I'm now caught up on posting photos of FO's (and not-so-finished objects) in my Needlework section.

I still have to get caught up in the Fuzzy Fotos section. I don't know if I'll get that done this week or not.

Thursday, August 16, 2007, 8:47pm: UGH! Our high temperature today was 101*F. Grrrr! I want nice cooool weather! As you can probably tell, summer is my least favourite season.  :-P

I finally have finished updating all the photos! Here are the rest of the Fuzzy Fotos, starting last December. And here is the Anglican Prayer Bead bracelet I made on the 2d of this month.

Saturday, August 18, 2007, 11:22am: Remember Constantine? Did you watch American Idol a couple years ago? Did you fall for his smoldering dark Grecian looks? His smooth sexy voice? His incredible stage presence? He's FINALLY got a CD out, him solo! Apparently he has formed his own independent label now. Click on the pic at right to see it larger!

We were at Target last night buying mundane things (a new hassock, a new steam iron). Then of course we browsed video games, DVDs, and CDs. What did I spy but a CD by Constantine Maroulis!! Yay!

When he was on American Idol, I so wanted him to win! I was among thousands of folks who were dismayed when he was booted. So I've been waiting for a CD from him! All I had (no, I really did not want his band's CD, just him solo) was him doing "Bohemian Rhapsody" on a CD called "Killer Queen". So of course I grabbed a copy of this new CD when I saw it last night! I listened to it on my portable CD player late last night after everyone was asleep. Yeah yeah, mostly-happy upbeat rock 'n roll! I love it!

You know this CD is going on my iPod! Go out and buy it! Tell your friends! Support Indie artists! Support Constantine!

7:13pm: AwayI finished Shelter a couple days ago. It's science fiction, set in the near future, regarding artificial intelligence, robots, social conscience, spirituality, family, and more. It was great! Complicated, difficult to take in some places, but a totally satisfying ending. I would recommend this for mid-teens and up.

Now I'm reading Away, which is well, fantastical. Good so far. :-) Click on the pic at left to see it larger.

8:36pm: Testing Expressions Web. I hope this works.

8:45pm: Okay, going back to FrontPage--Expressions Web is doing something weird in the code that makes it look all right for Internet Explorer but not for FireFox. Urgh.

Wednesday, August 22, 2007, 11:42pm: Today was Bunnicula's and my wedding anniversary! Silly me, I forgot to get a (frozen) cake and ice cream last weekend; and it was WAY too hot for B. to go get something today (we don't have a car). So here is what we had for our cake. :-P  Well, one year we had an artful stack of Hostess chocolate cupcakes as our anniversary cake, so it's not the first time for something innovative. ::grin::

Also: here is what I did this afternoon when it was too hot to have very many electronic devices on (gotta save the juice and keep things cool too!): I blinged-up my cell phone! All the stickers on the back of the phone are from that wonderful online store, Strapya.com! I don't work there, I'm just a satisfied customer. :-)  The large cherry blossom is made from kimono material. The smaller ones are "maki-e" stickers. Some of the stuff on the front (the maki-e stickers and some jewels) are also from them.

Monday, August 27, 2007, 11:08am:  A set of prayer beads I made for a friend.Life As We Knew It

7:12pm:  Books: I finished Away last Friday or so. I liked it, but I thought there was not enough time and attention given to one of the generations of women...and the ending was really left up in the air, in my opinion.

Then over the weekend (and finishing this afternoon) I read a riveting novel called Life As We Knew It by Susan Beth Pfeffer. (click on the pic at right to see it MUCH larger) It's the diary of a teenage girl as she and her family go through cataclysmic events and how they survive day-to-day. I could hardly put it down. It will draw you in, and you will think you are literally living in their world...probably because these events could happen.

I'm probably going to be reading Rainbows End next--Cat'r loaned it to me.

Tuesday, August 28, 2007, 5:35pm: Bunnicula's stepmother (the nice kind of stepmother), Jane, had a fall/possible fainting spell about a week and a half ago. She was taken to hospital, and they determined it was related to a heart arrhythmia. They were going to take care of that with medication. She was in for a few days, then in a step-down unit. Yesterday (or was it the day before?) she was released from the hospital. She suffered a massive stroke. One side of her body is totally paralyzed, she cannot speak, she's not really "there", and one half her brain is basically destroyed--her son Dave was shown the CAT scan and had it explained to him. Jane had already in the past told Dave that she did not want to be put into a nursing home and be a vegetable if something like this happened. She also put it in writing, legally. So Dave called us today and told us they are going to honour her wishes, and she will be given what is called hospice care, to ease her passing. Jane could use prayers and thoughts and energies for her transition; and the rest of us, especially Dave, could use comforting thoughts and prayers. TIA.

Light a Candle

I lit a candle earlier this afternoon...
