CountryMouse's Diary

Part 6

Rainbow swirly bar

Saturday, January 3, 1998: Teddy, my Komputer Koala (GigaPet) is still with me. Xmas seemed to suddenly be over with, gone too soon. But seeing Teddy reminds me he and I shared wrapping presents and listening to Xmas music and seeing Xmas lights...and that brings it all back a bit. Another thing about Teddy is that when he does call me (which is not very often), it's not an annoying beeping. It's a "chuck-chuck" sound. And he only does it if he's pooped, or if I have *really* been ignoring him for while. He's a very patient little guy.

Sunday, January 4, 1998: Teddy went for a walk with me this afternoon late, about an hour before sunset. It's very mild here in the Midwest right now. We had a high temperature of 64oF. today! Everything smelled wonderful, even though the trees are bare. The sky was a pale blue with a few high thin clouds; and there were a few squirrels and birds out and about. Very lovely day!

Thursday, January 8, 1998 [added Sept. 13, 2004]: This is an email I sent to the Virtual Pet Home Page, as they were trying to unravel the problems of GigaPet health problems:

Date: Thu, 8 Jan 1998
From: Joanna
To: Gary Polson
Subject: Re: Komputer Koala instructions

I can tell you definitively that the milk is the healthy (main) food and the leaves are the treat (which should only be fed once or twice a day). I have a healthy, happy koala who is 32 years old (will be 33 today). The printed instructions are incorrect.

Tuesday, Jan. 13, 1998: Avery, one of my US GameBoy Tamas, died last week. ::sigh:: I ended up sending my remaining GB Tamas home on rocketships (I wasn't sure I would have time to get back to playing with them). The ones that went home were Biko and !?!? (Japanese cartridge) and Bebe (US cartridge). However, CM changes her mind. I hatched a new Tama in my US GameBoy cartridge and named him Cedric! He turned into a ginjirotchi!!! I have been trying to get a ginjirotchi, in egg, in GameBoy, on desktop, *any*how, since last summer! Finally! and Yay! He's really cute! A strange thing happened on his way to becoming an adult, though. He started out as a babytchi (P1), then became a tonmarutchi! (P2), then went on to be a tamatchi (P1 again!), and finally became a ginjirotchi (P1). After Cedric won his first tournament as an adult, the option for the music screen showed up on the Options page. This is a very cute screen, showing your different Tam characters dancing to all the different music used in the GB Tam game!

On the Keychain Pet Front, Teddy, my GigaPet koala, continues in good health! He has been watching me play with Cedric...and many monsters in "Monster Rancher" (a PlayStation game)!! He's also seen many "battles" in "Stackers", "Jet Moto", etc. He's also been doing a good bit of TV-watching: "Babylon 5" every weeknight, now that it's running from the beginning on TNT; also "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Friends", "Seinfeld", "Veronica's Closet", "Millennium", "The Simpsons", "King of the Hill", "The X Files", and various delightful BritComs. He also saw a rented movie last Saturday called "Grave Indiscretion" (previously titled "The Grotesque" and "Gentlemen Don't Eat Poets"). It stars Alan Bates, Sting, and Trudie Styler (Sting's wife and the producer of the film). Very interesting movie...! And he's been listening to CDs I got for Xmas: "Liz Story" (such *beautiful* piano music!); "A Darker Passion" and "Anima Mundi", both by Ingrid Karklins (unusual ethnic/folk/alternative music!).

Saturday, January 17, 1998: Goodness, the mouse has been up to a lot the last few days!

On Wednesday, the 14th, CM got to have lunch at one of her favourite restaurants, then go shopping at her favourite bookstore, as a celebration for good news after a doctor's appointment! Teddy has been with me through all this--he's even popped out at doctors' offices and in a hospital outpatient waiting room! He also got to see the restaurant, before the food arrived (blueberry pancakes!); but he stayed in my purse while I bought several nice books at the bookstore. I was *given* a mousie book as a present, too: "Thump and Plunk" by Janice May Udry. I also bought 2 CDs: "Part of Fortune" and "Escape of the Circus Ponies", both piano music by Liz Story.

On Thursday, the 15th, at 12:51pm, I hatched Lavinia, a Tam1 (P1), in a beautiful lavender case with pretty swirly designs on it. Then, on her first day alive, she popped into a little satin bag (and Teddy into his) and got carted around in the mouse's purse at a mall in the late afternoon/early evening! Stuff CM bought that day: a couple mousie things ("Lilly's Purple Plastic Purse" by Kevin Henkes (I have almost all of his wonderful mouse books!), and a matching Lilly plush doll!); 2 PlayStation games ("Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo" and Tecmo's "Stackers"); another Liz Story CD ("Unaccountable Effect"); an orange-black *Tam1* I didn't have before (I already had a black-orange Tam2); a Star Wars Yoda GigaPet; a little paperback book called, "Virtual Pets" by Richard Eisenmenger; and 3 cute Polly Pocket dollhouse compacts.

Then today, my SO went shopping and found me tons of Tamagotchi paper products! Party supplies and other things! See my Tam Accessories page for more details!

Tuesday, January 20, 1998: Late this afternoon Lavinia transformed into her adult form: she became a (ta-da!) masktchi! I always seem to get mametchi/mimitchi or masktchi/zukitchi. ::sigh:: Oh well, maybe if I take really good care of her, I'll get the secret character.

Wednesday, January 21, 1998: Lavinia just told me her entire name tonight: Lavinia C. Divine.

Saturday, January 24, 1998: Lavinia got sick about an hour or so after she woke up today. I wonder if that means she's going to transform into the secret character? People say that sickness (not due to ill treatment or too many snacks, that is) usually presages the change into the next form. We shall see!

Lavinia and Teddy got to see (most of) "Monty Python's The Meaning of Life". The others in the household who know what mice can and cannot tolerate fast-forwarded through what CM was told was a particularly gross part of the film, while the mouse hid her eyes. She also looked away during the actual organ donor scenes. :-( Otherwise it was a funny, irreverent romp! The short subject, "The Crimson Permanent Assurance", was my favourite part of the entire film! Last weekend they both got to see "The Lost World: Jurassic Park". Wow, that seemed even scarier than the original film, "Jurassic Park"! Lavinia and Teddy didn't seem to be adversely affected by all the screaming the mouse did. ::grin:: Besides, this film had Jeff Goldblum in it! Vroom, vroom! :-)

Sunday, January 25, 1998: Today is one month after Xmas...and time to put the decorations away. I am glad Teddy and Lavinia were with me, as the task is always a bittersweet one...We listened to Jim Brickman's "No Words" CD (solo piano music) as we said farewell to Yuletide, until next December.

Teddy is 50 years old today! Wow! But I accidentally let all the hungry hearts run out on Lavinia once today--I wonder if that spoils my chances at the secret character?

Friday, January 30, 1998: I don't think I have been a very good mother to Lavinia: last night I wasn't paying attention, and she went to bed hungry and unhappy--totally. :-( I have also caved in and am just feeding snacks for happiness. She has gotten to that stage wherein she needs food and bolstering-up pretty often...

Saturday, January 31, 1998: Well, at least Lavinia went to sleep with full happy and hungry hearts last night. ::sigh:: Today she left while we were playing "PaRappa the Rapper" on the PlayStation. I hope she enjoyed her time here. I think I could've spent more time and attention on her...Bye-bye, Lavinia! I'll miss you!

Teddy got to watch "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" this evening. Cute movie!
